Tonight

(25 May 2010)

Tonight, we’ll walk together, side by side in cobblestone streets. I had hoped, no, longed for this for some time. And somehow I fear that those moments would be fleeting, for time is always unkind to me and the next time this would happen would be close to never.

Tonight, in each stride I’ll soak myself in the joy of closely seeing you – soft black eyes twinkling with every shy smile, each shy smile disarming and uplifting…

Fire

(10 November 2009)
written in response to this post

Yes, I am like you
I contain the same glow,
This ancient power that spurned
Myriads of worlds and stars,
This same force to end
All of those lost begotten…

Feed it not with fear
For it will consume you!
Free rein should be confined
Least it burn the vessel
That allows it to live…

Twilight

(15 February 2010)

A pair of feet waged on towards the top of the hills.

The short, quick flicking sounds of grasshoppers making a dash for safety blended discordantly with the rustling of the grass blades. Shadows are growing long, and so the rush. The golden orb is now about to kiss the hills.

Waiting Almost Done

(01 September 2009, Cebu)

Now the waiting is almost done.
I lingered to see your shadow
With the sun on your back.
I passed the time to see
And to hold the sweet face
I pined for a long time.

On Journeys… On A Mission

(19 September 2005, Lapu-lapu)

The Captain and I have been together for quite sometime.
I think I have gained His trust.
He has given me a formidable task.
He has sent me on a mission.
I am now in the onset of fulfilling it
And I am always doing the wrong calls.
I need His direction, and I called for His help.

Now I am lost, scrambling always to be faithful to my task.
The Captain is nowhere to be found…
Or am I just hard to find?
I want to believe He is constantly searching.
I am afraid, sometimes I am alone.
I hope I meet Him again soon.

On Journeys Again

(13 March 2003, Lapu-lapu)

The ship has docked.
The Captain has surveyed the land.
I tried very hard to follow
But the road offered attractions.
I got distracted.
Many times I lost sight of His back.
Sometimes He would patiently wait
Until I catch up.
Sometimes I would just stop
And He would find me.
In following, I started to know Him more
And I got to know myself…

This is the path of discovery.

On Journeys

(17 April 2002, Lapu-lapu)

Another journey has ended…
I have taken a long rest.
Now, it is time to begin another…
This journey will be rough.
The sea will be tempestuous.
The vessel will be rocked, tossed and blown…
But then, I am not the captain of the ship.
HE is…
I will not be afraid.
He steers.
He leads.
He knows the way…

On Poetry

(11 March 2002, Lapu-lapu)

I really do not like to write poems.
I like to write emotions.
Any piece I have crafted into words
I bind with them my passion and sentiments.
Each line conveys not just thoughts but feelings.
They tell how human I am.
They prove I am very vulnerable.
They expose my intimate moments.
When I lay down the words with my pen
I lay down not just a poem,
I reveal my inner self,
I share my life.

On Awakening

(06 November 2001, Cebu)

Morning was jovial
With raindrops rushing in glee to the ground.
The cold morning greeted me with
The fresh scent of the earth.
And so, I remembered water puddles
And paper boats
And baths in the rain
And wet birds quivering in the cold.

On Sleeping

(06 November 2001, Cebu)

When the world has taken its nightly rest,
I am still awake and far from the calls of slumber.
Your face delivers me from sleep
And hurls my mind to distant memories we’ve shared together
Your voice occupies my ears till
The rooster’s crows announce morning.
It is then that I take respite from the long night
I had with your memories.
